Paper Packaging Moisture Content Analysis

By definition, the moisture content of paper and cardboard is the measurable amount of moisture and water contained in the paper content. Moisture content in papers is one of the important criteria affecting the performance of the paper such as curling, bending, and fluctuation in the printer.

The moisture content of the paper can vary at any relative humidity depending on whether the moisture is desorbed or adsorbed. Moisture content is measured as relative humidity (RH). Paper moisture can generally be detected by two different methods.

- Oven drying method
- Use of paper moisture meter

Most papers are produced to be stable at 22 C and 45-55% relative humidity. For example, paper exposed to a 50%RH environment will accumulate up to 7% moisture content in just four hours.
