EN 1186-14: Total Migration Analysis Substitution Test Method

The EN 1186-14 standard includes the test method to be used to detect the general migration of Plastic Substances and Materials in contact with oily foodstuffs. Substitution tests are performed on Plastic Substances and Materials in Contact with Food with isooctane and 95% v/v aqueous ethanol.

• According to the standard, 1 dm² test specimens are immersed in the test environment,
• They are kept at the specified temperature and time,
• At the end of the test period, food-like Oily- 95% Ethanol or Isooctane test medium prepared specially for the test evaporated,
• The mass of the non-volatile residue is determined gravimetrically,
• It is calculated in milligrams per square decimeter of the test sample's surface area.
