EN 1186-9: Total Migration Analysis Product Control

The EN 1186-9 standard, which is suitable for the determination of Total Migration in refillable plastic containers and products, includes the test method for determining the total migration of test samples from only one surface. It is carried out by filling the sample of substances prepared as water-based food simulants at test temperatures up to (including) 70 °C during the specified test period.

The method within the scope of EN 1186-9 standard; It is based on filling plastic materials and materials that come into contact with food with a food-like substance, followed by evaporation of the food-like substance and mass determination of the non-volatile residue.

• Test samples are filled with food-like substance.
• It is kept up to 70 °C for a specified time.
• At the end of the test period, the test sample is emptied.
• The food-like substance filled into the sample is evaporated until it becomes clear.
• The mass of the non-volatile residue is determined. The result is expressed in milligrams per square decimeter of the exposed surface area of the test sample.
