AP(89)1: Determination of Antimony (Sb), Arsenic (As), Barium (Ba), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb) and Selenium (Se)

AP(89)1 covers the use of colorants in food contact plastics and materials. Solubility includes purity requirements for pigments, including concentration limits for extractable heavy metals, primary aromatic amines (PAA), and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB).

According to AP(89)1, the impurity limits in the Dyestuffs to be Used in Plastic Substances and Materials in Contact with Food should be as follows.

Impurity Limit (ppm)
- Antimony (Sb) - 500 ppm
- Arsenic (As) - 100 ppm
- Barium (Ba) - 100 ppm
- Cadmium (Cd) - 100 ppm
- Chromium (Cr III) - 1000 ppm
- Lead (Pb) - 100 ppm
- Mercury (Hg) - 50 ppm
- Selenium (Se) - 100 ppm
- Primary aromatic amines (PAA) - 500 ppm
- Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) - 25 ppm
