This test method covers the measurement of the linear dimension of flexible packaging and packaging materials. Accurate measurement of dimensions is critical to meeting specifications and characterizing process performance.

This test method does not address acceptability criteria. These must be determined jointly by the user and manufacturer of the product. This test method is recommended to be used within the tolerance range of less than 3 mm (1/8 inch) when it is preferred that the test error does not exceed 30% of the tolerance range.

The values specified in every system may not be exactly equivalent; therefore, each system should be used independently of the other.
