The test is performed on a portion of the gasket. The result determines the true strength of that part of the gasket. This test method differs in that the entire packing seal is peeled open and data is collected for the entire enclosed space.
This test method is a tool for Quality assurance use as well as for performance evaluation of a gasket during separation. It is a method for measuring mechanical seal strength when separating the entire lid (lid/membrane) from a rigid or semi-rigid round container. It is used to determine the sustained and maximum forces required to separate the lid (lid/membrane) from the container.
Typical examples of container shapes that can be tested using this method are oval, rectangular and circular with a single or multiple cavity with a sealed lid (lid/membrane). Examples of products packaged in such containers are: ready meals, creams, coffee, yoghurts, household sprays, chemical and pharmaceutical products, and many other unnamed products.
